Georgia Craftsman of North Georgia

Welcome back to the Georgia Craftsman of North Georgia blog! Today, we’re sharing the story of a stunning tiny home we recently completed in Blue Ridge, packed with custom details that make it a true North Georgia gem. From rugged deck railings to elegant shiplap walls, this project showcases our passion for craftsmanship and responsibly sourced local materials. Let’s walk through the build, step by step, with some progress photos to bring it to life.
The Project: A Tiny Home with Big Character
Nestled in the rolling hills of Blue Ridge, this tiny home was designed to blend rustic charm with modern comfort. Our clients wanted a space that felt warm, inviting, and unique, using locally sourced materials to honor the North Georgia landscape. Here’s how we brought their vision to reality, one custom feature at a time.
Step 1: Deck Railings with Rough White Pine Timber
We kicked off the project with the outdoor deck, crafting railings from large, rough white pine timber sourced from a local mill. These hefty timbers give the deck a sturdy, mountain-lodge feel, the 1″ rebar gives it a modern touch, and perfect for soaking in Blue Ridge’s scenic views on the lower jacuzzi deck. The natural texture of the pine adds rugged beauty, built to withstand the elements for years to come.

Step 2: Rough Circle-Sawn White Pine T&G Ceilings
Next, we turned to the interior, installing rough circle-sawn white pine tongue-and-groove (T&G) ceilings. Finished with Aged Oak Minwax stain, these ceilings bring warmth and depth to the compact space. The circle-sawn texture adds a handcrafted touch, making the ceiling a standout feature that feels both rustic and refined.

Step 3: 8″ White Pine Shiplap Walls with White Wash Finish & Heart Pine Floors
For the walls, we used 8-inch white pine shiplap with a 3/16-inch gap, finished with Simply White Minwax white wash. This combo creates a bright, airy vibe while letting the wood’s natural grain peek through. The shiplap’s clean lines and subtle texture make the tiny home feel spacious yet cozy, a perfect fit for Blue Ridge living. For the floors we installed Heart Pine giving the tiny home old world charm.
Step 4: Custom Cabinets Throughout
No tiny home is complete without smart storage, so we built custom cabinets throughout the space. From the kitchen to the bathroom, each cabinet was tailored to maximize function without sacrificing style. Crafted from local white pine and finished with Minwax Aged Oak to to blend with the shiplap’s white wash, these cabinets blend seamlessly into the design.

Step 5: Custom Doors with Frames
We designed and built custom doors with matching frames to give the home a cohesive look. Each door was crafted from white pine, with rough-hewn details to echo the railings and trim. These doors aren’t just functional—they’re statement pieces that tie the whole design together. You can see the doors in the videos below.

Step 6: Rough Trim Throughout
Finally, we wrapped the project with rough white pine trim throughout the home. From baseboards to window casings, the trim’s rugged texture adds a final layer of character. Left natural to complement the ceilings and doors, it frames every detail beautifully.

Why We Love This Project
This Blue Ridge tiny home is a testament to what makes North Georgia special: natural beauty, quality materials, and heartfelt craftsmanship. Every element, from the white pine railings to the white-washed shiplap, tells a story of care and connection to our region. Our clients now have a space that’s not just a home but a retreat where they can make memories for years to come.
