Welcome to the first post on the Georgia Craftsman of North Georgia blog! I’m thrilled to share the stories behind our projects, from custom cabinetry to outdoor living spaces, all built with North Georgia heart and soul. Today, I’m diving into a recent job that’s a perfect example of what we do best: a handcrafted red oak couch swing for a family in Ellijay GA.
The Process
Every piece we build starts with a sketch and a conversation. For this Couch Swing, we worked closely with the clients to nail down details like the finish color a warm Minwax Charredwood and hardware brushed brass bearing rollers to hang on. The red oak was milled locally, and we spent hours in the shop shaping, sanding, and assembling each component by hand. The ropes were a fun touch, giving the piece that cozy, rustic vibe North Georgia homes are known for.
This project started with a vision from our clients—a warm, functional centerpiece for their lower deck that could double as a gathering spot for family gatherings and game nights. They wanted something timeless, built from local materials, and we delivered. The swinging couch, crafted from rich red oak sourced right here in North Georgia, measures 6.5 feet long and 5 feet deep with an Minwax oil base rubbed finish for durability and charm.

Why We Love It
This Couch Swing isn’t just furniture—it’s a place where memories will be made. From picnics to late-night chats, it’s built to last for generations. Plus, using responsibly harvested local red oak means we’re supporting our community and celebrating the natural beauty of our region.
